The Well of Souls tool takes a desecrated item and narrows down what it can still become. Open it from Scanners → Well of Souls, or bind a hotkey under Overlays → Hotkeys.
The problem it solves
Desecration has a pool of possible outcomes, and which of them are reachable depends on the item in front of you — its base, its item level, and which affix slots and mod families are already occupied. Working that out by eye means cross-referencing a mod list against an item, which is exactly the kind of bookkeeping a tool should do.
How to use it
- Copy the item in game (hover it and copy, as for a price check).
- Paste or load it into the Well of Souls page. It parses the same item text the price check does.
- Read the candidate list. Each entry is an outcome the well could produce on *this* item, with what it would add.
The list is computed deterministically from the item and the bundled data — it is not a guess, and it does not call out to a server.
The optional screen read
With the item pasted and the well's revealed choices on screen, Scan revealed choices reads them and marks each one's tier over the game. This is opt-in and worth understanding:
- The panel is found automatically. ePOE locates the Well's choice panel in the game window by itself; there is no region to set.
- Each choice row is read on its own, three times over, and matched against the valid modifier pool for your item — so only modifiers the item can actually roll are accepted.
- Each tier badge sits on its own row over the game for 15 seconds.
- It only runs when you ask it to — not continuously — and reads pixels, never game memory.
- If the read comes back wrong (heavy UI scaling, a non-English client), fall back to the candidate list. The deterministic path never depends on OCR.
Every scan saves the game window and what was read to %APPDATA%\ePoe Overlay\scanner-captures\well (newest 20). Attach the newest one to a report under Help → Submit a Bug if the panel is missed or a row is misread.
The toggles live under Settings → General → Screen reading, alongside the other OCR switches.
Deciding whether to commit
The candidate list tells you what *can* happen. Three questions turn that into a decision:
Is the best outcome actually good for you? A desirable mod on the wrong base is still the wrong item. Check it against what your slot needs.
How many candidates are bad? A pool of three where two are junk is a different bet from a pool of eight where six are fine. The list length is the denominator.
What is the item worth now? Ctrl+Alt+D first. If the item as it stands sells for more than the expected value of the gamble, sell it. This is the same discipline as any other craft: the tool tells you the odds, you decide whether the odds are worth taking.
